The school is working very hard to try to reduce congestion at the school gates to make the area a safer place. To help with this we will be implementing a Park and Stride scheme whereby the school gates will be a safer place for everyone; our aim is to restrict all vehicle access to the school car park at drop off and pick up times; of course, those students with access needs will be permitted to be dropped off inside the school gates.
We understand that not all children are able to walk the whole way to school, due to distance, parental work commitments or a variety of other reasons; by setting up our Park and Stride scheme, we hope to help more pupils enjoy the benefits of 2 brisk walks a day encouraging them to take self-responsibility of their health. This is a simple initiative, where parents/carers are encouraged to park their car a 10 – 15-minute walk from school and then for the pupils to walk the remaining way to school.
As most of our pupils live in the greater Grays area, we have arranged for parents to park at either The Pyramid Resource Centre or Blackshots Leisure Centre and for their child to walk the rest of the way to school. We have identified 2 walking routes from the car park which do not require pupils to cross any busy road until they reach the pedestrian lights outside of the school. If for some reason these are not suitable parking places, we encourage parents to choose another suitable place 10 - 15 minutes away from the school gates from where their child can walk the rest of the way to school.
We thank you in advance for your support in this initiative whereby we will be showing social responsibility for our environment and encouraging students to show self-help in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. .
If travelling by train, the school is well served by the following buses 11, 73, 83, 100 and Z1 from Grays bus station to a dedicated bus stop and crossing.
